Mark Watney wasn't the mission commander of Ares 3, a month-long expedition to Mars. He was just the science geek, botany guru, and mechanical engineer: the lowest guy on the totem pole and the only one who didn't make it back to the ascent vehicle when the storm hit. Left for dead on the surface of a barren planet, Watney must plumb the depths of his considerable ingenuity and resourcefulness to find a way to survive - and to let the people on Earth know he's still alive.

3 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Expands well on The Martian By MzMonka I am a fan of side kicks and this one is no different. I pick these up here and there because I want to see if I missed anything or if there was a different view that I might not have thought of. I usually get the most out of the books that I read. There are few times that I miss things but I like to take a look and see not only if I missed something but also what alternate endings are offered by the author. Looking more into the characters is also something that a side kick are good for. I like to take a deeper look into the characters and find it to see if what I thought was correct. Overall I think this side kick is a good addition to The Martian and it can give you a deeper look into the story, characters and all things Martian

3 of 4 people found the following review helpful. Same ole By Kingfishcafe All this does is ask you the questions you asked yourself while reading this book, it's short .99 would be a better price

0 of 0 people found the following review helpful. Not useful at all By Antonio Soffici Useless, it doesn't give any additional information. It speculates on Weir's thoughts as if he were long dead. Why not ask him?
